    COMMANDER'S MESSAGE

The holiday season is here. I would like to wish all of you a "VERY MERRY CHRISTMAS" and a "HAPPY NEW YEAR" filled with the joys of the new year and safety to each of you!

Administrative officers of squads have an important duty that must be performed by January 1st. If you are the chief administrative officer for your squad, it is your responsibility to see that the certified roster of all of your members with the Association has been filed on or by January 1st. Don't let unfair penalties fall on members of your squad because you as chief administrative officer did not do your duty. If you have questions or need assistance, please call Gordon or myself.

REMEMBER, don't forget to mail your roster and pay your dues!!

JOIN THE BROTHERHOOD! JOIN THE BROTHERHOOD! JOIN THE BROTHERHOOD!!!

    VICE-COMMANDER'S MESSAGE

Please allow me to take this opportunity to thank everyone for their kindness and sympathy shown to me and my family during the recent passing of my father. The cards, visits, phone calls, prayers, food, and thoughts meant so much to us. I thank you for helping us through this difficult time.

As Christmas day draws near, I again thank you for another year of dedicated service to your fellow man. Please take some time this season to be with your family as much as you can. As we strive to provide more and better service, we sometimes forget those loved ones who depend so much on us. Put off those extra jobs, ask someone else to take the extra duty, do whatever is necessary to let your family know that you care about them also. I pray God's blessings on you, your family, and ask for Peace and Goodwill towards all persons. Have a safe and happy holiday season.

NATIONAL EMS MEMORIAL SERVICE NOMINATION DEADLINE

December 31st is the deadline for submitting nominations for the National EMS Memorial Service. All EMS personnel, volunteer and career, who died in any year as a result of an EMS call are eligible to be recognized. There is no fee to submit nominations.

"The only one of its kind in the U.S.", the National EMS Memorial Service honors the ultimate sacrifice of the men and women who have given so much to serve all of us," according to Chairman Kevin Dillard. "It also recognizes their families and the many other EMS providers who served with them."

Since the Memorial Service was established in 1993, 96 providers from 27 states have been honored. It was founded by the Virginia Association of Volunteer Rescue Squads.

The names of those honored will be engraved on individual brass leaves that become part of the "Tree of Life", a permanent memorial to EMS personnel who died in the line of duty. A picture and brief biography will be placed in the National EMS Memoria Book. The service and permanent memorial are the only ones of their kind dedicated solely to EMS personnel.

During the service, family members and/or colleagues will receive an American flag that has flown over the U.S. Capitol and recognizes the EMS provider's community service, a single white rose signifying love of others and medallion representing their eternal memory.

To request a nomination form contact: National EMS Memorial Service, 1904 Byrd Ave., Suite 211, Richmond, VA 23230-3028, phone (804) 282-3311 or fax (804) 282-9847.
