COMMANDER'S MESSAGE
Well, another convention has come and gone. Our "hats off" to Asheville. You provided us with an excellent convention.
Our sincere best wishes to our Chaplain, Buddy Shaw, who became ill at the convention and was hospitalized. We are happy to say that we have got him back home o.k. Our thanks to everyone who have sent cards, called, and have been concerned about him. Buddy and his family are most appreciative.
We would like to thank DOI and OEMS for their part in putting on competition again this year. They did an excellent job. Congratulations to the competition winners! Even if you didn't win a trophy, you are still a winner--you entered and you tried. You learned something in the process and this knowledge could save lives in the future.
I hope everyone got back home o.k. We sincerely missed the ones who could not attend this year because of the hurricane. Our sincere thoughts and prayers have been with you through it all. We hope your lives will soon return to a normal routine and if we can help you in any way, let us know.
We are looking forward to convention in Hickory next year.
Remember, join the Brotherhood!
VICE-COMMANDER'S MESSAGE
I enjoyed our Annual Convention this year at Asheville and even had a chance to talk to a few of you. The squads there did a fantastic job of pulling together and putting on a good program for us. Thanks goes to Area X and all those who helped. OEMS handled a tough First Aid Competition and the Department of Insurance personnel worked diligently at putting on a very challenging and thought-provoking Rescue Competition.
I can't thank each of you enough for the work you did during Hurricane Fran. The strength and dedication you showed went beyond the call of duty. I am aware of several incidents where personnel put helping others first and their lives and family second. I thank you for this and the work you do each day. Just remember that we must think of our families in times of need also. One way to do this is to be sure you join the Brotherhood. Helping our Rescue/EMS family when they are in need is also a necessary part of our life if we are to continue providing services.
Time to check those trucks for winter. Turn the heaters on, check your batteries and in general give it the once over so that it will operate in the cold of winter.
