COMMANDER'S MESSAGE

Summer is finally here, after very unusual extended cool weather. It is time to be careful. With outdoor activities in full swing, you will possibly have more chances to use the knowledge and skills you have obtained reference water accidents and lawn mower accidents, etc. Be prepared. Should you need mutual aid assistance on a major scale, please don't hesitate to call our office.

Hope you had a safe and happy fourth of July holiday!!!

REMINDER, be sure to make plans to attend our convention at Hickory in September.

JOIN THE BROTHERHOOD! JOIN THE BROTHERHOOD!! JOIN THE BROTHERHOOD!!!

VICE-COMMANDER'S MESSAGE

Continuing Education is a very important part of the Rescue & EMS field of service. Each person should review their continuing education hours every few months so that any problem areas can be corrected easily. Maintaining good records is very important to recertification. Hopefully, you won't have to take the written and practical exam for failure to be involved in a Con-Ed program.

Many of you are already signed up for BLS Judges Evaluation in Harnett County on July 26. If you miss that location, your only other chance this year will be in Hickory on August 23. On that date we will also hold the Rescue Judges Evaluation. Be sure to read and follow your rules for Judges and participants. Sometimes not following the rules can cost you your place in competition. Be at the proper place at the designated time, maybe even a few minutes early. This will make operations much smoother.

Catawba County Rescue Association is working hard to prepare for our convention on September 19 & 20, 1997. They have already done a lot of work and more is in store for them. I have all confidence they will give us a good convention which will be enjoyed by all who attend.

If you have not checked your Brotherhood beneficiary recently, and you have had changes in your family life, please review this information now If just makes good sense to keep business in the proper perspective. If you are not a member of the Brotherhood, please consider joining. It is a way you can help those who have helped others.

    NASH EMERGENCY BIKE TEAM (NEBT)

NEBT was formed to provide a quick response at large events where access is limited for normal response modes. NEBT consist of 2 teams or 4 paramedics. We use four mountain bikes, equipped with pannier bags and a top bag. 1 bike carries advanced airway equipment, IV supplies and basic first aid supplies. A second bike carries a LIFE PAK-5, a supply of emergency drugs and basic first aid supplies.

We have been in operation since 07/01/96. We have worked 16 events and treated 25 patients. This program has proven itself to be cost efficient and has lessened our response times by approximately 7 minutes at large events. For additional information, feel free to contact our Emergency Services Office at 919/459-9805.
