    COMMANDER'S MESSAGE

A reminder that Rescue College is coming up soon. Rescue schools are scheduled for McDowell County on March 15 & 16; Stone Mountain on March 22 & 23 and Rescue College in Durham on April 12 & 13 and April 19 & 20. You need to pre-register for all these schools. Some of them will be full soon.

We will be trying something new this year at convention. It will be a "Rescue Challenge" competition utilizing 2-man rescue teams. Full information and all literature on this will be going out by the end of March to you. The Department of Insurance will also be putting this on for us and this will not affect the other rescue competition.

    JOIN THE BROTHERHOOD!!!

    VICE-COMMANDER'S MESSAGE

What is a Rescue Challenge? Some might think it is an auto accident with persons pinned in and the vehicle on fire. Others might think it is a stranded climber on the side of Looking Glass Rock in the middle of January during a freezing rain. While both those incidents are a real challenge to our members, the Rescue Challenge I am talking about is a contest to see who has the best basic rescue skills. This contest will be held at this year's convention in Hickory and will consist of 2 person teams competing to see who can perform 5 or 6 basic skills accurately and in the quickest time.

Now is the time to start practicing your skills and be sure to contact the Association office for further information. Have you reviewed your Association benefits lately? Do you have a contact person who is up to date on these benefits, including the Brotherhood, and can you talk to that person for specific information? Each organization should have at least one person who knows or has access to all information the Association provides. It is most important so that our members get everything they deserve. If not, ask your chief officer to appoint someone to attend area meetings, keep specific forms available and in general be familiar with all the benefits and events the Association sponsors. Thank you for all you do for your community and fellow citizens.
