Our Holiday Season has passed, and we begin a new year full of challenges and opportunities for the future. Many issues face us as we continue to grow and expand our horizon. Are you aware of recent correspondence concerning "Protection of Out-of- Hospital Medications". If not, you should be. What happens to our meds and fluids when they are left in a truck that reaches an inside temperature of 140+ degrees, or falls below 32 degrees? Each drug and fluid manufacturer has a recommended temperature range for storage of its product. In order for the company to stand behind its product in a liability situation, the guidelines must be followed. As of yet, there are no incidents known of negative patient outcome; however, for the protection of our patients we need to follow the manufacturers guidelines. If you have questions or problems and need answers, contact the N.C. Office of EMS. They have information concerning this problem that needs to be addressed.
Please remember the Brotherhood and if you are not sure about your status, contact our office and inquire. Thank you for all you do for so many in North Carolina.
As we enter the new year, I wish for each of you and your family members a very happy new year. The Association has worked hard for the members and the benefits that are provided to you did not come easy. Across the state I hear that the squads are losing members. Have you explained to your members the benefits that are available? One benefit that we, as members of the Association, have is the scholarship program that has been developed over the years. What other volunteer organization can you be a member of and have the benefits that your Association has to offer? Talk with your members about them. Explain them over and over.
Have a prosperous New Year and strive to communicate with all your members.
