COMMANDER'S MESSAGE

The issue of supply exchange at the hospital is certainly a hot topic and is not over yet. It might even take Congressional action to settle this problem. Please keep in mind that the hospitals are trying to help us, they do so much for us by sponsoring our ALS programs, helping with quality assurance issues, plus much more. Working together with the hospitals and our Congressional leadership, I think we can recover what we have lost.

Have you ever heard of the drug "RICIN"?? It is a highly toxic, white powder used by drug dealers and illegal drug laboratories to "bait" law enforcement officers in an attempt to injure or kill them during a raid. The powder, which is 6,000 times more lethal than cyanide, causes death if it contacts human skin. There is no known antidote. If you are involved in emergency calls to an area suspected of being a drug lab, use extreme caution and wear full personal protective equipment. There are no confirmed reports of its presence in North Carolina; however, if this substance is out there anywhere it will soon show up here. Don't be a victim.

VICE-COMMANDER'S MESSAGE

It is time to make sure that the scholarship application is submitted for your child. It is also time to make sure that the scholarship application is submitted for yourself. Yes, the Association has worked hard to provide the financial aid to members who provide a valuable service to their communities. If you are not familiar with the scholarship program, ask your squad captain. This is just another benefit to the members of the association. Please don't wait.
