Boy, is it hot outside!! I hope everyone is fully prepared for this hot weather by taking care of your trucks and body. Both need plenty of cooling during these blistering times. Speaking of hot, the issue of charging certified personnel for Continuing Education classes required to obtain and maintain State mandated certification has cooled off quite a bit. After meetings with the Board of Directors of the Community College System, it was decided to postpone any attempts to change paid or volunteer rescue/EMS personnel. We won't take this matter off the stove yet, rather we'll keep it on the back burner for a while. Thanks to all who e-mailed, called, visited, etc. in order that we might be successful. Working together we can accomplish many things.
Convention 99' is just around the corner. Be prepared for a wonderful and exciting time. Don't forget the Brotherhood either. Plan to attend our Memorial Service at this years' convention, we are making changes.
Thank you again for all you do for so many.
As we get close to ending another fiscal year for the Association, we are thinking about the Convention in September. We will be renewing friendships, competing in the competitions and wondering where the year has gone. The Association has worked very hard getting information out to the members about new programs and legislation that has passed the General Assembly. Some of you became involved when we found out that the House had passed a budget that included fees that the Community College wanted to charge for taking classes that they required to perform the service you do. We had a great deal of help letting the people in Raleigh know that we were there and that we did not like it. Two very special people, Senator John Kerr of Wayne County and Senator Beverly Perdue of Craven County are two of the members of the General Assembly that listened to us. We are not finished with the fee scale that the Community College would like to impose. We do not want the system to change as we have come to know it over the years. Keep the pressure on. Talk with your Representative or Senator. If you need information about the fee schedule, call the Association office in Goldsboro.

Bob Bailey, Chief of the Office of Emergency Medical Services, will be retiring from state government with 30 years of service, effective September 1, 1999.
Bob stated in a recent memo his plans are not to really retire but "try something new and have a little more time for family". He has his own consulting business and hopes to have the opportunity to provide consulting services. He also plans on helping his daughter and son-in-law get their new business up and running, and last but not least do a little trout fishing.
We wish Bob a "Happy Retirement"!
