    COMMANDER'S MESSAGE

Rescue College for 1999 is in the history books, and thanks to many people it was a success. Weather cooperated very well....the sun came out when necessary and it rained when needed. The Office of the State Fire Marshal provided us with excellent classes. Volunteer instructors as well as the City of Durham Fire Department and the Durham Firefighters Association provided instruction and accommodations. We are very thankful for all the help. It would have been difficult to meet our goals without their assistance. I would challenge each squad to access their capabilities and if you are not adequately trained, qualified and proficient in the technical areas of rescue, you should make plans to attend. All training classes are run in conjunction with Durham Technical Community College so that proper credits can be given.

On another note, someone mentioned to me a comment about Rescue Standards. Something about light, medium, heavy, certified personnel, equipment list? If you have questions, call your area director, call the Association Office or even better attend an area meeting. I think we can provide you with updated information.

Thanks again for all you do for so many and don't forget the Brotherhood.

    VICE-COMMANDER'S MESSAGE

As we begin to plan for the annual convention in Winston-Salem, I would like to encourage each squad to consider entering a team in the competition that is held on Friday and Saturday of the convention. A great deal of training goes into preparing for the events, but the members who participate in the training, getting ready for competition, appear to have a great deal of fun after the competition is over. Enter a team in Rescue Challenge, Rescue Competition or BLS. Win or lose, your squad will enjoy being a part of the events.

    See you in Winston-Salem.
