As most of you are aware, my term as Commander of the NCAR&EMS will end this month after Convention 99' has ended. I want to use this brief space to thank all those who have worked so hard to make our Association a success. From our office staff, Becky, Lynette and Gordon, to our Board of Directors, all the Committee Members and Past Commanders; to all these special people who have supported us the last two years, I thank you from the bottom of my heart. Your love, kindness, friendship and caring means much to my wife and I. My wish for the future is that you will continue that support for our new Commander and Vice-Commander. They can succeed only with your help. I plan to remain active in the Association and work whenever I am needed or wanted. If any squad or member needs to contact me, the office will have updated information. I pray God's blessings on each of you and wish each of you the best of luck. Hopefully, I will get to see each of you at Convention 99'. Again, I thank each of you for what you do for so many.
By the time you receive this newsletter we will either have had our Convention or will be getting ready for it in Winston-Salem. The Board of Directors voted to have a twenty-five year breakfast and present a pin to each member present that has been in the Association for twenty-five years. It is a small way of saying "Thank You" for your service to your community.
Have you asked a member to join the Brotherhood? If each present member of the Brotherhood would ask one person to join and obtain one new member, we would double our membership within one year! See you at the Convention.
Alexander County Rescue Squad & EMS was recently inspected and passed the requirements to be recognized as a Heavy Rescue provider. Terry Foxx, Chief of the 40 member, all volunteer department; says it took a whole lot of hard work by the squad and community to achieve this goal. The department makes 650 to 700 calls per year. Alexander County has a population of approximately 30,000.
