The scholarship deadline was March 31st. After the deadline each year, we receive word from squad members that they did not get any information about the scholarship program. Think about it for a moment. If you had a student eligible for a scholarship, would you not; as a parent, talk with your squad officers to make sure that they had or had not received the information on the program. Yes, each parent/member in the squad has a responsibility to stay informed about the scholarship program and not only that program but all of the benefits that the Association has to offer. If you as a member would like someone to visit your squad meeting to explain the benefits, please let us know. Call the office and request someone to visit your squad meeting. We need to ask our members to join the Brotherhood. We are very close to getting the figure that we need to increase the benefit of the Brotherhood to $1,000.00.
Spring is just around the corner and that means that it's time for Mountain Rescue and Rescue College. If you are not fortunate enough to be able to attend one or both of these schools, I'm sure there are some other weekend classes available near you that are excellent. Take advantage of these just as you should take advantage of the Pension Fund and the Brotherhood. In case you are not familiar with either of these benefits, ask your squad officers or call one of your Area Directors for more information.
The scholarship application deadline has passed and I hope everyone who was eligible to apply took advantage of this.
On another note, Past Commander A.B. Parker passed away on March 1, 2000. He will be greatly missed by both his family, the community and those in rescue that knew him.
