    COMMANDER'S MESSAGE

As we come to the end of another year, we should reflect back on the events of the past and plan for the future. Over the past forty-five years, our Association has worked for the benefits that we as members have today. One of the benefits that we have is the $75,000 in-line-of-duty Death Benefit. The scholarship program that we have for children of our members has assisted some to obtain an education at an institute of higher learning that would not have received one. Another benefit available is the Fire-Rescue Pension Fund that you can participate in for only $10.00 per month. At age 55, after twenty years of service, you can receive a check; which at this time is in the amount of $151.00. All of the benefits are yours, but if your squad roster is not submitted on time, you could lose these benefits. Check with your squad officers to make sure that they have all the information current for you. After an event happens, it is too late. We must abide by the rules and regulations that have been established for our programs. Are you a member of the Brotherhood? If not, ask your squad officials about how you can join. Have a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

    VICE-COMMANDER'S MESSAGE

What a difference a year makes. Last year we were hit with hurricanes which resulted in flooding that won't be forgotten or recovered from in a long time. This year we had no hurricanes to hit land and a long period of time with no rain resulting in a drought which led to numerous wildfires in the west. We never know what the weather will be, just like we never know what the next call will be. Be prepared with training and equipment for the next call and while you're at it, join the Brotherhood if you are not already a member. Mountain Rescue levels 2 & 3 held at Pilot Mountain was great. I do not think anyone could have ordered the weather and gotten it any better. As I have said before, we all need to thank all the instructors who give up their weekend to train others to do a better job on a call. I hope each of you had a great Thanksgiving and will have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
