    COMMANDER'S MESSAGE

Each year about this time, letters are sent out to individual members notifying them that the officers of their squad has not filed a roster. Each year about this time we have members who have a break in service, members who have a child that received a scholarship, and members who lose the benefits that they did have prior to the new year. Why? Please explain, not only to me, but to your members why the officers of the squad, the Captain, cannot file the roster with the office. Why, when a new member joins the squad you fail to put them on the roster. Can you explain why? We continue to receive telephone calls from individual members telling us that they have been a member of the squad for years, but yet they are not on the roster. If you need your Area Director to visit your squad to assist you in completing the necessary paperwork for a new member or if you would like for him/her to explain the many benefits that the Association has for your members, please call. Think about joining the Brotherhood. It is a recruitment tool, along with an excellent benefit.

    VICE-COMMANDER'S MESSAGE

The deadline for filing the annual squad roster has passed. I hope all of your squads have done this already but if they have not, you the members need to know why. All of the benefits are tied to this and it being filed. The deadline for the scholarship applications is March 31, 2000. All of the applications were sent to the squads instead of the individual members. If you have a child who is a senior in high school or you want to further your education, this is for you. On another note, there are some excellent classes coming up. Mountain Rescue in March and Rescue College in April. Space is limited, so send in your registration quickly after you receive the application from DOI.
