    COMMANDER'S MESSAGE

Soon we will be having our Convention in Fayetteville. It is now time to decide if your squad is going to enter a team in competition. The time that you spend together can be rewarding--not only receiving excellent training, but the fellowship that you develop with your members.

The General Assembly is now meeting in Raleigh and several bills have been introduced and referred to committee that pertain to the members of the Association. One bill that we have had problems with before is the Open Enrollment for the Fire & Rescue Pension Fund. Those of you who are not in the fund and wish to enroll, should pay special attention to this bill.

Remember, the officers of the Association can only do so much for the members--you must speak to your representative when you have the opportunity. Invite him or her to your squad meeting or just come and visit and explain what you do. Remember also, join the Brotherhood. We are close to the number that we need to raise the amount that is given to the beneficiary.

    VICE-COMMANDER'S MESSAGE

As you read this, we are already into hurricane season by a month and if the forecasters are correct, it promises to be an active season.

Being from the mountains, we hardly ever get anything from a hurricane except some rain and a little wind. I would not remotely attempt to tell rescue personnel from the coast how to deal with a hurricane, but we all need to be prepared whether we are the ones who are directly hit by a storm or the ones who are called to assist our fellow squads who need help. Remember, if you need assistance to call the state office, or your area directors and your local emergency management coordinator. Go through the proper channels so reimbursement can be made to the squads responding to help.
