In less than five months we will be having our state convention in Fayetteville. You need to start making plans to attend. It is your convention and many hours of planning have gone into making it worthwhile. The Rescue College is over for this year. The first weekend, over 140 participated with approximately 100 for the second weekend. The DOI staff does a super job in planning this school and Durham Fire Department made everyone feel welcome.
Have you checked your membership to see how many belong to the Brotherhood? We have over 18,000 members in the Association, but only have 5,100 members in the Brotherhood. The Brotherhood was established for the members and it would be nice to have each member in the Association belong to the Brotherhood. Think about it......... Do you have any ideas on how we can communicate with the members better? If you do, please let the State Office know.
As the seasons change, we in rescue need to adjust accordingly. The end of school is here and that means no more yellow school buses for a while, but is also a sign of children playing outdoors, possibly near the roadways. We need to be mindful as we drive our emergency vehicles as well as our personal vehicles and watch out for the unexpected.
Summer also brings a new set of injuries and rescue related calls, such as drownings, searches, bee stings, bicycle and motorcycle accidents and various others. Be prepared for these calls as well as the call when a fellow squad member has passed away. That being, you and the rest of your squad members belonging to the Brotherhood.
