    COMMANDER'S MESSAGE

Each year we appear to get behind in getting the squad rosters in by the deadline. The staff at the Association office have just completed working the rosters. Would you believe that we had squads that did not submit a roster until they had been sent an 8th notice? When you accept the position of leadership in your organization, then you accept the responsibility along with the authority that goes with the position. One day, you will have to answer to your members as to why you did not file the roster on time. How much trouble is it to file a roster or send in the name of a new member who joins the squad. We have so many ways to file the roster or make additions/deletions to it, by E-mail, fax, Internet mail or by telephone. Each month I receive word from the office that a person was denied benefits because their name was left off the roster or that it was taken off by mistake. A roster of your members is the most important document that you can maintain now and forever.

Have you asked a member to join the Brotherhood?

    VICE-COMMANDER'S MESSAGE

As I write this message, I tend to think back to the way "it used to be". When I became involved in rescue some 20 odd years ago, attending the Area VII meeting was the place to learn new Association news, trade ideas and get information on training classes in the region. We also had a plaque that went to each squad with the most members in attendance. That squad keeps the plaque until the next meeting.

Now the information is mailed to each squad and the benefits are sent to all squads and members at least once a year. In addition to the mail, we have an excellent web page filled with information.

Attendance at Area meetings is still very important as a place to learn and to voice your squads concerns and questions. If you cannot attend your Area meeting, call one or both of your Area Directors. I'm sure they would be glad to hear your questions or comments.

    Remember to join the Brotherhood.
