The 2000 State Rescue & EMS Convention held in Fayetteville is over and now we can work towards the 2001 State Convention in Hickory. Now is the time that those of you who did not participate in competition can start training and enter a team in Hickory. We continue to grow in squads, departments and membership in the Association. This is great! But we are not increasing our membership in the Brotherhood with the number of members in the Association. We are so close to being able to provide your beneficiary with a $5,000.00 check. At the present time, we have less than 30% of our membership in the Brotherhood. Would it not be nice for each squad or department to provide their members the benefit of belonging to the Brotherhood as a fringe benefit for the many hours of duty and training that they give? Check your schedule for your next Area meeting and please make every effort to attend. You will receive a great deal of information.
VICE-COMMANDER'S MESSAGE
With Thanksgiving close, we need to be thankful of our health and our abilities to help those who have had the fate of their lives changed in a split second. Sometimes it takes an intense rescue effort, an emergency transport to the local emergency department or trauma center or just a kind word and a smile to make a change in someones day who for whatever reason has had the control of their life or health altered. All over North Carolina this time of the year, we hear too many times of accidents involving hunters and searches for lost persons who go hunting in unfamiliar territory. If needed, patient care for these types of calls can be challenging due to the nature of the injuries and possible extended carry-out times. Be ready with equipment and personnel that is capable to handle these types of calls.
