    COMMANDER'S MESSAGE

The 44th Annual Convention is over. It was a success. The Rescue Challenge, Heavy Rescue and BLS Competition was conducted without any major problems. To the OSFM and OEMS staff, I say again "THANK YOU" for all that you do and did to make the convention a success. To Gordon, Lena, Lynette and Becky; the work that you do in getting the participants registered is appreciated. To the other personnel who participated in putting the convention on so that those who attended can enjoy it. On behalf of the Board of Directors, THANK YOU ALL!

Our second annual 25 Year Breakfast, with Insurance Commissioner Jim Long as guest speaker, was a success. With 33 members receiving their 25-year pin, who had over 1,000 years of service to their communities. We had two couples, Clarence and Ruth Evans from Duplin County and Durwood and Marie Evans from Gates County, that had over 100 years of service. Thank you all for the work that you do in providing assistance to the citizens of North Carolina.

    VICE-COMMANDER'S MESSAGE

If you missed the 44th Annual Convention, you missed a great time. We wish all squad members could attend, but we all know someone has to stay behind to provide rescue and EMS to the counties we are from. A big CONGRATULATIONS is in order to all the teams who competed. The time and training put into making a team ready for competition is more than most realize. Thank you to all the volunteers who made the Convention happen. The staff of the Office of EMS for their help and BLS Competition problem, the staff of the Office of the State Fire Marshal for the Rescue Challenge and the Heavy Rescue Competition and all the judges who give up their time at Convention to judge and their time throughout the year to be qualified to judge. We owe all of you a big THANK YOU for a job well done.

If you were not at the Convention, a couple of decisions which were made was that the In-Line-of-Duty Death benefit be increased from $50,000 to $75,000 and the Accidental Death benefit from $10,000 to $15,000 and the Dismemberment benefit could pay up to $15,000.

Your Board of Directors work very hard to make sure benefits are the best the Association can provide.
