    COMMANDER'S MESSAGE

The membership of the Association has just gone over 510 squads/departments/units, with over 19,000 members. Now if we can get the membership in the Brotherhood over 6,000, we can increase the benefits. Why can we not have over 33% of our members in the Brotherhood? It was established many years ago to assist the family of a member who needed financial help. Each member of the Brotherhood should ask and obtain one new member. It is for our benefit. The present benefit is $4,500, payable once the death certificate is presented. We need approximately 200 more members to raise the benefit to $5,000.

    VICE-COMMANDER'S MESSAGE

If you operate an ambulance or QRV in North Carolina, I trust you took time to read the proposed rule changes that were sent out by OEMS and hopefully were able to attend one of the public hearings that were held across the state. If you have not read them, you need to. You still have time to submit your comments in writing or by attending the meeting on October 3 at Emergency Medicine Today in Greensboro. Comments need to be both positive for what you see as the direction for services to go in and of course if you read something that you think may be a problem or costly submit that also. This is your chance to express your opinion. If you don't send your comments in then when the rules are adopted and there is something you don't like you can blame no one but yourself.
