COMMANDER'S MESSAGE
You cannot turn on your television now without hearing about the Olympics. One of the most frequent words used is Preparation. Preparation by the athletes, the security, the law enforcement of Salt Lake City and the list goes on. We in rescue must be prepared and ready for the small events, just the same as the big events. Are we prepared for todays rescues with old ways of training or old equipment? No, I'm not saying that the experience of the members that have been in the rescue service need to be ignored, but maybe the old and new need to be challenged to newer skills through training. Same goes with equipment. The old has a place and there are some new items that maybe can be done without, but life on the street would certainly be easier and more efficient with them.
Remember to advise all your members about the scholarships. The applications are on-line and must be in the Association Office by March 31, 2002. The Brotherhood five year deadline is also approaching. Don't wait too late and let a great benefit pass.
VICE-COMMANDER'S MESSAGE
We are preparing for the first of four Director's meetings for the year 2002. When you read this note, the first meeting will be history. We are to meet in New Bern on January 19-20, 2002. I am looking forward to meeting with a large number of members and participating in all the activities offered.
There are a couple of things I would like to remind you about. 1. Brotherhood Membership, 2. ERT. Brotherhood is exactly what it is.......members helping each other. Members helping other member's families in a time of great need. A four dollar joining fee and one dollar assessment when one of our members dies enables us to help their family. We know that burial expenses are tremendous, $3,000 will not go very far when a family faces this situation. At this time, a member's beneficiary would receive a check for $4,500.
Where else could you have this much coverage for an initial fee of $4 and $1 when another member passes? Brotherhood can and will bring comfort to all who belong. JOIN TODAY! I challenge all Captains and Chiefs to encourage all members of your respective squads to join.
ERT----July 1, 2004. This day will be here quickly. This is the date set for departments to become certified. LEARN, STUDY, PRACTICE. There is no reason for anyone to quit rescue, no reason for any department to stop rescue activities. I encourage you to contact your community college to set up a schedule for classes and get started. There is ample time. BEGIN NOW!!
COMMUNICATION --- a two sided entity. Have you tried it?
