RULES AND DIRECTIONS
FOR PARTICIPATION IN THE SCHOLARSHIP AWARDS PROGRAM

The North Carolina Association of Rescue and Emergency Medical Services, Inc. will award each year, thirty-five (35) $12,000.00 Scholarships to thirty-five (35) outstanding high school seniors. These awards will be paid to the student in installments of $1,500.00 per semester. These awards will be made to those Seniors who will enroll in a four (4) year college or university in North Carolina, beginning in the Fall, after their graduation from high school that same year. This scholarship may be awarded for a total of four (4) years.*
The North Carolina Association of Rescue and Emergency Medical Services, Inc. will award each year, ten (10) $8,000.00 Scholarships to ten (10) outstanding high school seniors. These awards will be paid to the student in installments of $500.00 per semester, the first two (2) years, then $1,500.00 per semester the last two (2) years of school. These awards will be made to those Seniors who will enroll in a two (2) year college in North Carolina, beginning in the Fall, after their graduation from high school that same year. This scholarship will continue into a four (4) year college or university, on transfer from a two (2) year college to a four (4) year college or university. This scholarship may be awarded for a total of four (4) years.*
In addition, the N. C. Association of Rescue and EMS will award each year thirty-five (35) $2,000.00 scholarships to thirty-five (35) outstanding high school seniors, who will enter a two (2) year course of study at a community college, technical institute, or an accredited trade school in the fall, after graduation from high school that same year. Awards will be paid to the student in installments of $500.00 per semester. This scholarship may be awarded for a total of two (2) years.*
Each eligible member or child of member may apply for exactly one scholarship in any given year. Please do not submit multiple applications!

Awards shall be based upon the student's scholastic achievement, intellectual ability, financial need, character, and promise of future contribution to our State and Nation. Selection of recipients is to be made without discrimination as to race, sex, creed or national origin. After entering school; a recipient must stay continuously enrolled in an accredited institution, maintain a 2.0 cumulative grade point average each semester and carry twelve (12) credit hours or more each semester. To receive payment applicants must furnish a transcript or grade report of the previous semester, Fall grades by February, 10th, Spring grades by July 10th. Payment will be made upon receipt of transcript or grade report (Exemptions are for odd class schedule, summer school, compressed, accelerated, etc., sixty (60) days shall apply). Failure to do so will result in loss of scholarship. Please allow 2-4 weeks for payment processing.
Continuation of the payments of educational benefits for children of active members shall be conditioned on the continuance of active membership in the rescue or emergency medical service by the parent or parents with an eligible department.
Applications are available on-line on January 1st and will remain through March 31. Applicants must apply, on-line, by March 31st. Please read rules for eligibility.
All recipients will be posted on the web page by May 15th of each year. It is important, when checking the web-site, that you search under the year that you applied for a scholarship. All scholarship winners will be listed by the application year, not the year that the scholarship was awarded.
RESCUE SQUAD WORKERS' RELIEF FUND
General Statute Chapter 58, Article 88, section 5 (G.S. 58-88-5)
(3) The purpose of this fund is to award scholarships to children of members, deceased members, or retired members in good standing, for the purpose of attending a four year college or university, and for the purpose of attending a two year course of study at a community college or an accredited trade or technical school, any of which is located in the state of North Carolina. Continuation of the payment of educational benefits for children of active members shall be conditioned on the continuance of active membership in the Rescue or EMS service by the parent or parents.
ADMINISTRATIVE RULES
This Awards Program provides $820,000.00 per year in scholarships to children of eligible members of rescue squads and EMS services.
